The Type 3730 electro-pneumatic positioner series is a versatile option that is suitable for general industrial applications. For those who require advanced functionality, the 3730-2 positioner model is an excellent choice. This model includes full function parameterization and advanced diagnostics. Beyond the 3730-2, SAMSON has introduced communication protocols such as HART (3730-3), Profibus (3730-4), and Foundation Fieldbus (3730-5). Full function parameterization allows users to fully characterize the reference variable, travel range, characteristic (i.e. linear and equal percentage), and performance characteristics (i.e. PID control coefficients).
The advanced diagnostics available in the Type 3730 electro-pneumatic positioner series include status message logging, data logging, histograms (travel setpoint deviation and cycle counter), drive signals (steady and hysteresis), end position trending, static characteristic testing, partial stroke testing, and full stroke testing. With these advanced features, users can gain a much deeper level of insight regarding the performance of their processes.
The Electropneumatic positioner with HART® communication is now available in the market as SAM DIGITAL READY. It comes with a die-cast aluminum or stainless steel housing, allowing attachment to linear actuators according to IEC 60534-6, VDI/VDE 3847, or SAMSON integral attachment, as well as attachment to rotary actuators according to VDI/VDE 3845. Additionally, attachment to double-acting actuators with Type 3710 Reversing Amplifier is also possible.
The positioner also features integrated EXPERTplus diagnostics for control valves and can be mounted in any desired position except for suspended. Simple one-knob, menu-driven operation allows for easy configuration, and the easy-to-read display can be rotated for easy reading in any mounting position. Moreover, it can be configured with a computer over the SSP interface using the TROVIS-VIEW software.
Variable automatic start-up thanks to four different initialization modes, and preset parameters mean that only values deviating from the standard need to be adjusted. The calibrated travel sensor without gears susceptible to wear is a valuable feature, just as the sub (substitution) initialization mode that allows the positioner to be started up in case of an emergency while the plant is running without having to change the valve position.
The Electropneumatic positioner with HART® communication is equipped with self-diagnostic features such as messages in a condensed state conforming to NAMUR Recommendation NE 107, issued over a fault alarm contact or optional analog position transmitter. Furthermore, it has an integrated temperature sensor and operating hours counter, as well as two standard programmable position alarms.
Save all parameters in non-volatile EEPROM and use it with a two-wire system having a small electrical load of 410 Ω. The adjustable output pressure limitation, tight-closing function, and automatic zero monitoring features make this an advanced piece of technology for control valve applications.
Moreover, a DTM file is available for integration into FDT frame applications according to specification 1.2.
