The Type 3730 electro-pneumatic positioner series is specifically designed for use in general industrial applications. In order to serve a wider range of end users and processes, this positioner series includes several model versions.
The basic control positioners come in the form of the 3730-0 and 3730-1 models. However, starting from the 3730-2 model, the positioner is equipped with full function parameterization and advanced diagnostics capabilities.
For those who require even more advanced communication capabilities, SAMSON has introduced communication protocols such as HART (3730-3), Profibus (3730-4), and Foundation Fieldbus (3730-5) for models above the 3730-2.
The full function parameterization capabilities are inclusive of characterizing the reference variable, travel range, characteristic (i.e., linear and equal percentage), and performance characteristics (i.e., PID control coefficients). On the other hand, advanced diagnostics include functions such as status message logging, data logging, histograms (travel setpoint deviation, and cycle counter), drive signals (steady and hysteresis), end position trending, static characteristic testing, partial stroke testing, and full stroke testing.
An electropneumatic positioner that features HART® communication, the SAM DIGITAL READY has a die-cast aluminum or stainless steel housing. It can be attached to linear actuators in accordance with IEC 60534-6, VDI/VDE 3847, or SAMSON integral attachment. Meanwhile, it can be attached to rotary actuators in accordance with VDI/VDE 3845, and to double-acting actuators with Type 3710 Reversing Amplifier.
Control valves can be integrated with the SAM DIGITAL READY, thanks to its integrated EXPERTplus diagnostics. The positioner can be mounted in any position except for when it is suspended. Its one-knob menu-driven operation makes it easy to use, while its easy-to-read display can be rotated in any mounting position to suit the user's needs.
The TROVIS-VIEW software can be used to configure the positioner via computer over the SSP interface. Furthermore, it has four different initialization modes that allow for variable automatic start-up, and preset parameters - only values that deviate from the standard need to be adjusted.
The positioner also comes equipped with a calibrated travel sensor and a sub-initialization mode that enables it to start up in case of an emergency without having to change the valve position. All parameters are stored in a non-volatile EEPROM, and its two-wire system has a small electrical load of 410 Ω. Additionally, it has an adjustable output pressure limitation, a tight-closing function that is adjustable, automatic zero monitoring, and an integrated temperature sensor.
Two standard programmable position alarms, self-diagnostics, and messages issued over a fault alarm contact or optional analog position transmitter are also included. Its messages conforming to NAMUR Recommendation NE 107 come in a condensed state and it has a DTM file available for integration into FDT frame applications according to specification 1.2.
