Common Problems

• Smart Cal fails to complete: Check supply pressure is within 20-120 psi. Verify valve travel limits are within the rated range. Ensure the valve is not stuck or binding.

• Position oscillation or cycling: Check whether stick slip is present. If position cycles are much greater than setpoint cycles, the positioner may be causing the cycling. Inspect for a handwheel blocking valve stroke, a broken stem, or disconnected position feedback components.

• Communication failure with HART handheld: Verify loop resistance is adequate. Check terminal voltage meets compliance requirements (9Vdc @ 20mA, 11Vdc @ 4mA). Dual channel barriers can apply excessive loop resistance and cause compliance voltage problems.

• Low power error (LOW_POWER): Input current below 3.15 mA. Increase loop current to 4 mA for calibration and diagnostics.

• TuneERR appears after autotune: Manual tuning may be required. Refer to the troubleshooting section in the instruction manual.

• SelfCheckError or hardware failure: Remove power for two minutes and restart. Clear the alarm using ValVue or HART Host. If the failure persists, replace the electronics module.
