Product Overview

The AUMA SA Series is a multi-turn electric valve actuator designed for open-close duty and positioning duty on gate valves, globe valves, and similar multi-turn applications. It delivers reliable torque transmission, precise limit and torque switching, and is available across a wide torque range from 10 Nm to 32,000 Nm to suit different valve sizes and process requirements.

SA-type actuators for open-close duty are rated for Class A and B or short-time duty S2 – 15 min. A special version is available for longer running times (S2 – 30 min). The actuators can be combined with different actuator controls, from simple OPEN-CLOSE controls to micro-controlled versions with logging of operating data or fieldbus interface.

The actuator features limit and torque sensing, available with 3-phase AC, 1-phase AC, and DC motors. A handwheel is provided for manual operation. The enclosure provides IP68 protection according to EN 60529, with high-quality corrosion protection (KS) and a wide ambient temperature range of -30°C to +70°C. Output drive types conform to DIN and ISO standards.

Common Problems

• No reaction to operation commands: Check movement at actuator. Verify the reaction time setting. Check for mechanical blockage or power supply issues.

• Torque fault in OPEN or CLOSE direction: Check for valve obstruction. Verify torque switch settings. Inspect for excessive valve friction.

• Mechanical position indicator cannot be set: Reduction gearing is not suitable for the turns/stroke of the actuator. Exchange reduction gearing.

• Actuator runs to end stop although limit switches work properly: Check limit switch settings and end position configuration.

• Motor winding temperature too high: Check actuator sizing. Verify the duty cycle matches the application. Correct sizing if necessary.

The AUMA SA Series is a current-generation multi-turn electric actuator platform. The SAR Series is a modulating actuator variant rated for Class C or duty type S4 – 25%. The SAEx Series is available for explosion-proof applications (torque range 10 Nm to 16,000 Nm). The SA-UW Series is designed for continuous underwater use (torque range 10 Nm to 4,000 Nm).
