Product Overview
The Fisher DVC6200 Digital Valve Positioner Package is supplied as a fully factory-preassembled and pre-tested solution for precise valve control in process industries. It combines the digital valve positioner, mounting hardware, terminal connections, and calibration-verified settings into one complete package that significantly reduces on-site commissioning time and eliminates the need to separately match positioner, actuator, and feedback components. The DVC6200 converts a 4-20 mA DC analog input signal into a pneumatic output pressure to drive the actuator, and it uses HART 5 or HART 7 communication protocol to enable remote access to valve condition data from any point along the loop. The high-performance, linkage-less feedback system eliminates physical contact between the valve stem and the positioner, which means there are no wearing parts and the cycle life of the assembly is maximized. The positioner supports both throttling control and on/off control modes, and it is compatible with sliding-stem linear actuators with rated travel between 6.35 mm and 606 mm, as well as quarter-turn rotary actuators with rated travel between 45° and 180°. The instrument also provides position feedback through an integral 4-20 mA position transmitter or a discrete switch, depending on configuration. Because the unit arrives factory calibrated and tested, users receive a coordinated positioner package that reduces wiring errors and shortens startup time.
The enclosure is designed for harsh industrial environments, with a Type 4X and IP66 protection rating that resists dust, water ingress, and corrosive atmospheres. The operating ambient temperature range is -40 to +85°C, with an extreme temperature option available down to -52°C for instruments using fluorosilicone elastomers. The supply pressure can range from a recommended minimum of 0.3 bar above the actuator requirement to a maximum of 10.0 bar (145 psig), and the steady-state air consumption with the low-bleed relay is less than 0.056 Nm³/hr at 1.4 bar supply pressure. The DVC6200 carries a comprehensive set of certifications, including CSA, FM, ATEX, IECEx, and marine approvals from Lloyd's Register, Bureau Veritas, DNV, and ABS. The positioner supports air, natural gas, and nitrogen as supply media, and it is widely used in oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, water treatment, pulp and paper, mining, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical industries. The combination of digital communication, self-diagnostic capability, sealed construction, and flexible mounting makes this package a dependable choice for long-term valve automation and low-maintenance plant operation.

These industries require precise valve control, reliable remote communication, and online diagnostic capability. The DVC6200 is particularly suited for applications involving liquid ammonia service, generator lubricating oil cooling water systems, and gas processing facilities where valve reliability directly impacts production uptime. The stainless steel housing option withstands the corrosive atmospheres often found in chemical plants, pulp and paper mills, and offshore oil and gas installations. With HART communication, operators can access valve condition data without entering hazardous areas, improving safety and reducing exposure to dangerous environments.
Common Problems
Instrument will not communicate – check power supply at the device terminals and verify that the minimum voltage requirement of 9.5 VDC for analog control or 10 VDC for HART communication is met.
Valve does not stroke from 0 to 100% with setpoint change – verify pneumatic connections and supply pressure; confirm that the correct output block (AO or DO) is configured in Feature Select.
Transducer block setpoint not updating from AO block – change transducer block mode to Auto and confirm that AO block is active.
Analog input reading does not match actual current – check terminal voltage, wiring polarity, and loop resistance.
Valve stuck or solenoid stuck – run ValveLink diagnostic tests to identify valve assembly friction, broken actuator spring, or broken valve/actuator shaft.
Low or high air supply or pressure droop – inspect air supply regulator, check for external air leaks in actuator diaphragm or tubing, and verify supply pressure is at least 0.3 bar above actuator maximum requirement.
Excessive valve assembly friction – perform diagnostic tests to quantify friction and compare against baseline; inspect packing and stem condition.
Position feedback incorrect – recalibrate the integral 4-20 mA position transmitter or verify limit switch actuation.
Moisture ingress into terminal box – inspect enclosure seals, cable glands, and cover bolts; verify IP66 integrity.
Communication dropout on HART loop – check loop wiring, shielding, termination, and HART device address.
